Research profile

I situate my research in the general areas of communication and technology, health communication, and stigma. I am particularly interested in issues that intersect these domains. My research examines the implications of new communication technologies for health communication and, in particular, digital coping in online communities. To provide an in-depth view of digital technologies' role as a coping resource, I pursue theoretical insights through two lines of inquiry: - how people experience and cope with health stigma through digital media? - what is the role of digital affordances—how technologies are perceived and used—in online support communities?
